The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 倒不是不好，作为赵婷第一部商业大片，能把这么大一盘棋下成这副样子，其实已经不容易了；但是总觉得讲故事可以更聪明一点，也可以更简洁明朗一些。如此多元化的漫威战队组合，也真的是让人开眼了，有几处看得真的尴尬，真不知道该说是时代的产物呢，还是政治所迫的牺牲品呢…
建议去看1998年老版梅津泰臣的《风筝》，图6/7/8/9，把这部《凯特》秒成渣。
Chloe Zhao的马力克风格的确和漫威叙事不太搭，剧本也比较潦草，以及让少狼主和Jon Snow俩演员轮番对女主说出「瑟曦我爱妳」实在过份尬过分违和……

感觉赵婷的美学和漫威的调性还不算是很match；突然有人性的变异怪物很有趣，但是不知道为什么最后又变成了一个工具人；主角们全球旅游似的到处跑，如果不是好莱坞的加成成品估计和国产的二流冒险片不相上下。不过，有个人的东西，总是要比重复的复制要好点的，难怕它需要适应；此外，这是一个集政治正确之大成的电影，这其实也很迪士尼。 / 2022.1.25 广州家
片尾PPT阐明一切：赵婷的眼界从来不在世间善恶也无暇理会被印上「政治正确」的烫金烙印，影片从始至终都在延续《无依之地》里的现代游牧气息，不同的是一个以四季为单位，一个则贯穿万年。但这似乎是毫无作用的，徒劳的超然，世界观也许不是野心赋予，但给予现代的景观却把意图一览无余。物质世界里全然是旷野与日光，文明只在历史中徜徉，在这个命运共同体中，没有一个镜头对准每天碌碌无为、朝九晚五、虚伪但善良、愤怒又怯懦的普通人。那所谓的地球命运和心系宇宙，也只在导演的情绪里自溺了。此外，自以为觉醒的意识抢夺本该不属于的话语权，只会变得形式化或者滑向深渊，当我们抵制一切的时候，最终发现抵制的就是自己而已。
作为华人导演的第一部漫威作品，情感上还是很支持的。全片表现也是很不错，希望接下来的续集可以有更好的表现。

3.5吧…这个漫威典型的弱智剧本也没给导演多少发挥空间。至少角色还都挺可爱的，设定多元确实令人更舒适一点。
重新解构了漫威的样板戏模式，在两个小时内演了一部没有前几部电影做铺垫的《复联1》+《美队2》+《美队3》，更重要的是，它顺利地让我爱上了戏里的每一个角色——尽管进戏院之前我对这些B咖角色一无所知。如果这不算成功，我不知道什么才算。还有朱莉是真的美。

咱就不说什么政治正确什么的傻逼情况。本身设定的输出与剧情的结合就是一团乱麻，宏大的叙事有吗？全是虚浮的感动，白左肯定喜欢。看了这个之后，连扎克施耐德都显得如此可爱。
不是一部好的超级英雄电影，但绝对是一部好电影。漫威的爆米花电影工厂没有消解赵婷的个人风格，反而被赵婷打上了烙印，深邃的表达与平淡的叙事。但赵婷和MCU这两者终归是不好协调的，这导致电影在绝大多数的时间里呈现一种生硬的拉扯感。毁了这个电影的是迪士尼过于政治正确的作秀式选角，50%的女性、亚裔、印度裔、拉丁裔、黑人、同性和残障人士应有尽有，角色电影外的功能凌驾于电影本身。
《永恆族》的時間線的剪接與回憶片段就是踢一步郁一郁，冗長。那些彩蛋與結尾要為下一部鋪墊，有點肉酸。鏡面很靚嗎？地貌很靚嗎？比它靚的大有片在，似睇電視劇講口水野，然後打打打，打的場面都唔好睇啊。勝在賣賣綽頭，同性戀、小不點、殘疾人、女人救世，左翼思想電影，就係而家電影的價值觀同多元文化炒埋一碟。
当然最大的问题还是MCU夸张的流行与成功几乎已经定下超级英雄电影明晰的边界，内（创作者）外（观众与市场）都很难逾越成见式的定义。《永恒族》最大的问题对于人类文明走马灯一般的“观光”和不能自洽的剧情漏洞症结在于此；这个时代很难再看到《守望者》和诺兰版《蝙蝠侠》的原因也在此。
万分期待但凡看电影爱电影哪怕只有一点点的人们多一点理性和自主性，就像觉醒的永恒族和异种一样～

设定挺有意思的，思考的东西也是站在人类文明史而不是基于国别的那点子大小事（拉踩美队2/3的政治惊悚片路线），哆啦A梦有一集剧场版也是这个立意。不过闪回有点故弄玄虚了，悬念也没啥新意。原子弹那段罢美国站在反战的角度倒也没啥好说的，点打在科技创造大面积杀伤武器上是自洽的，中国人因为民族情感不能接受也可以理解。我不喜欢的地方在于这些神的心智真不大成熟，跟某个短评里写的在亚非拉做公益的国际生差不多，当然在MCU的语境下想做严肃讨论也不大可能吧（曾经的福斯漫威倒有可能），赵导想做成人向还是投靠DC罢hhh。
