The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 剧情和丹麦原版基本一模一样 所以也就只能看看男主演技了
不怎么震撼，疫情下的作品，什么时候出伸冤人3呢？
封闭空间，单一场景，一个主要演员，加上配角不超过五个人，这电影也太省钱了吧。但是男主个性背景交代不清导致整个人物情绪起伏莫名其妙。一会儿咳嗽，一会儿痛苦，一会儿暴躁，好奇怪。铺垫不够，不知道为什么男主对报警电话里的绑架案反应如此强烈，男主的罪行直到电影结束也没有完整交代，也不存在最后留有悬念反转的情节。
7/10。主角缺陷极多，所以看似反个人英雄主义叙事，实际还是个人英雄主义。剧作严谨，台词细腻，不过，故事魅力在于反转却并不高明，因为主角的一切缺点反而过早地暴露了反转的目的，观众一猜就中。如果换人来演不一定及格，老吉演技实在太突出。片尾Credit出人意料，没想到一批大腕以voice形式出现在了电话的另一端。
Broken people save broken people
看完这影片只有一个感觉：情绪管理很重要，情商真的很重要！人在激动的情况下，会忽略掉很多重要的细节。
没有宣传的那么跌宕起伏，其实是很简单的故事，其实背景里的暗线更适合拎出来拍。男主不具备这个职业需要心理素质，但也正是因为这一点才能最后解决问题。老吉的表演加一星。
不能说照原版翻拍，只能说相差无几。所以也没什么可说，都没看过那二选一均可。
喜欢这样的个人秀，纯演技发挥，没有看过丹麦原作，但并不影响观赏本片，各种配音绝了，都是超强发挥。。。
很美国本土，典型的PTSD男主遇见新的事件，随即对过去创伤做选择，因而转移了现时事件推进过程的一部分注意力，也少了北欧版的那种不留痕迹的提心吊胆。老吉过于sentimental。
一部适合边玩手机边在电视机欣赏的电影。通过对话表现场景很不容易，但主演的表现太用力了。
没有看过丹麦原版…就仅针对看了的美版来说，还是蛮有触动的点的，比如开头的字幕“真相使你自由”，比如末段同事的那句“broken people saved broken people”，男主的演技没话说，撑起了整部电影，但影片也确实为塑造男主的形象设定了太多背景和辅助场景，比如大火衬托了在案件一开始时的警力资源紧张，男主凭一人之力力挽狂澜，哮喘在通话过程中制造了紧张氛围以及让看客对我们的男主产生同情，和前妻同事的穿插通话慢慢丰满男主个人的过失案件，为后面女子身份的反转和通话双方的互相救赎做铺垫。男主最终坦然面对和承认控罪，也算意料之中合乎情理了…
2021.10.1 看之前都不知道是翻拍，就覺得懸念節奏設置得不太到位，男主獨角戲很有看頭，但總覺得他頂著一張帥臉沒太能刻畫出人物性格（對白也有關係吧）導致我最後都有點一頭霧水。而且Ethan Hawke為什麼不出鏡啊真討厭！
整部影片靠杰克·吉伦哈尔的演技撑起，换任何人来演都会寡淡无味…老吉YYDS！
比欧版更让人容易看进去，老美老练的镜头语言把整个故事诠释的更具临场感。结尾比较俗套，那也是原版剧本的锅，总体是忠实还原原著。吉伦哈尔的表演也优于原版，原版除了面瘫还是面瘫，寡淡、乏味。原故事顶多值2星，杰克演出 + 改编的细节增强 + 豆瓣分严重偏差 = 2星，总分 4 星。
没看丹麦版，但是美国人搞这种，只有形式感的紧张，往里一层的，关于人的善与暴虐，痛苦与误解，甚至是自私和心碎，都浮粉在表皮里，能理解却其实无法理解。
还可以，剧情拍的紧凑，就是故事比较老套，全靠吉伦哈尔演技在撑
三颗星都给老吉，整部电影都是老吉的舞台，表演课很精彩！
其实每个人可能都会和男主人公一样在人生逆境的某些时刻陷入黑暗暴力，因为感情因为家庭因为童年阴影等等错综复杂的因素，虐杀小动物，（借执法者身份）开枪击毙看不顺眼的少年……等等，最终男主在一次电话营救过程中找寻到了自己，选择不再逃避，面对自己的错并承受代价。不得不说吉伦哈尔演技真好，把一个独角戏演的有声有色，有人说是奈飞翻拍原版更好，我先不做评价因为没看过原版。但最后马桶旁给搭档电话那段儿真的非常真实入戏。把人物内心的斗争演绎得淋漓尽致。是的选择直面自己承担前途尽毁的人生，哪儿那么从容？
