The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 影片是乔纳森拉尔森的个人传记片，讲述充满音乐剧才华天赋的他是如何在穷困潦倒一文不名的时候坚守梦想最后终于成功的故事，他创作的最成功的音乐剧《吉屋出租》在百老汇上演了13年，可他却在《吉屋出租》出演第一场前因病去世了，可谓是悲剧天才。

讲述可以说改变现代音乐剧形式的天才剧作家乔纳森拉森的人物传记片，他却也没能逃脱早逝的命运。

各方面都令人想要和《爱乐之城》对比。但本片无论是音乐上还是对爱情与梦想之间挣扎的表现，都差了许多。
天才人生中永远只有过路人，从情感角度的解读倒是有几分《后翼弃兵》的后劲了。
看之前没了解片子任何背景，然后边看边一直在感叹好像rent啊，看到最后才发现拍的就是rent的原作者的故事……
tick tick boom！被击中了，热泪盈眶。
生活都被写进剧里，生活本身也自然被掏空。
