剧情介绍

The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will.     “你在看这部电影的时候,在印度至少8个女人被强奸”。为什么非得一名女性用全国直播犯罪的方式才能让这个国家开始重视女人一直在被强奸这个事实?以及为什么一个被锁住的女性即使引起了全社会的关注也没能引起国家对女性被拐卖的重视?电影主题是强奸,但前一小时在铺陈叙事和制造悬念的同时也给出了一些女性视角的设计:女总理的意见被男部下们忽视,意图将女总理打造成一个傀儡领导人,因为他们认为女人总是情绪化做不了正确决策;女警察断定女老师不会杀人打算直接冲进去抓人;女主播不被男上司重用直到她以重要线索相逼;以及最后老师在女子监狱里的英文教学。最令人崩溃的时刻是原本一直默默接受治疗与抑郁对抗的她看到强奸犯抓着小女孩的手走进来才最终做下决定。(某些男性即使看了这样的影片也丝毫不为之所动同时又开始在评论区指点江山)

    《星期四》就像是个犯罪片万能模板,最后的核心立意贴任何现实问题都可以成立。归根到底就是悬疑的铺垫,犯罪本身与正义诉求没有必然性,也没有主人公逐步发掘真相的戏剧反转。全盘在理想化的女主视角下平铺直叙,顺利发展。因此那些视听语言所建立起的紧张氛围都是伪惊悚。而且在视听处理上也有印度电影一贯的毛病。虽然近年像韩国电影在像现实主义题材转,但创作喜欢还是脱离不了歌舞片的那种推焦大特写,这就是落后审美的局限性。

    像韩影那类意义大于电影本身的电影,聚焦印度的社会问题,新闻媒体和官僚体制的探讨也只是浅层次的,更多是女性的控诉,以及这一控诉也因为前奏过长而显得无力,结局更是过于理想化了。角色必须伟光正的规则也使得影片走向了模式化的类型片,没有被逼入绝境的疯狂似乎就失去了批判的力量。当影像之外的观众没有看到行为只听到了枪响,也就等于把真相告诉了观众,因此展开的情绪是多余的,这也是电影的局限性。
