形式大于内容，本就复杂的叙事结构因为歌舞加入更乱了，两段叙事时空的交错，两种表现形式的混合，不断造成的断层以至于很难融于故事当中。而且除去结尾几首歌，大部分歌曲也没什么亮点。加菲的表演状态则更像是在出演舞台剧，脱离了传记片的真实感，可矛盾的是，剧中剧结构却又允许了这种表演形式。当然，电影是最容易表现这一复杂剧本的方式，但最适合它的舞台，其实还是剧院。
