The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 氛围营造和摄影不错，就是剧本太弱了，女主最后凭借一己之力杀死怪物不太信服，节奏又很慢，最后的反转预示有下一集？

硬件和技术性方面都很棒，但是故事太草草了。看了半天，就这？ 但导演风格蛮喜欢的
氛围感一流，雾气蒙蒙的俄勒冈小镇，森林与湖泊间隐匿着的矿洞怪物，导演太会拍空镜，以至于美得不像恐怖片。鹿角怪物的设计很好看，有toro这个怪物狂魔的味道了，但也仅此而已，靠着最最最让我讨厌的jump scared勉强让我维持住仅有的精神以不至于睡过去，剧情松散降智，能感受到导演似乎想表达些什么，但是又不清不楚的，弑父是看到了，my mom is dead 也看到了。Lucas他爹把自己关在阁楼一段甚至还挺感人，除此之外再没别的了。愿世界再无葫芦娃救爷爷，一个一个送的恐怖片。
应该将这未知的恐惧延长更长时间来揭秘，而不是早早暴露在观众面前
变成Wendigo 的原因到底是什么?
一般般，这种题材完全可以拍的更好，带上更深的宗教色彩，人性的贪婪什么的
阿帕图的故事结构一直不太成，有个前提就靠段子堆，这部也一样，拍情景喜剧没准可以，2个小时的电影看的可太吃力了。
主角光环过于强大，站哪儿让打，难道怪物还知道怜香惜玉？不过看在具有克苏鲁风格的题材上，爱好者还是值得看的。小男孩演技不错，挺卖力挺入神。
悬疑氛围不错

实在是太装腔作势了，包括由大段长镜设计形成的迟缓的影像质地；旧时期人食人变成了现在的毒贩，笃信不疑的体制人面对“创伤”瞬间阳痿，结局甚至写得更干脆：他感染了。很老生常谈的现代化问题工具理性的质疑是拿来就用，用也就用块皮，就跟结尾的怪物一样，面上挂层人皮，但是人不是人是兽也不是兽。这场打斗调度也蠢爆了。
鋪墊特別好，將恐怖感慢慢滲入骨髓，氛圍搞得神秘陰冷，可惜還是逃不掉高開低走，女主的神勇和怪獸的戰力太草率，路人被秒主角永遠有光環。
那有怎么样？看的爽就好了。

略可惜了，本来当时对预告片很期待的。其实完整成片看下来，也不算差，影像风格以及氛围营造都是优点，高潮段落的打光与绝佳的摄影。怪物本身设计也不错，带有很明显的克鲁苏风格，想起了那部类似的《黑森灵》，这个远古邪神的故事本来应该能更好的

我觉得，竟然是标准恐怖片体系之上的一不用影评，题材很喜欢，电影最吸引人的地方的场景，氛围以及灯光，如果你能忍耐电影前期比较慢的节奏那么电影第一个小高潮会觉得很带感。为什么这是一部完成度高的恐怖片，因为电影还夹杂着青少年心里抑郁，父女性侵等敏感元素，事实上，女主角最后杀死温迪哥的桥段实际上是在杀死过去自己父亲对自己的所作所为。最后回归电影本身，情节实际上比较俗套，女主对小男主这么执着的感情也略显单薄，影片高潮处温迪哥的战斗力也让人觉得，就这？ 不管怎么样，是一部不错的怪物片
